About

Aquanation in Ringwood is a fantastic, modern aquatic and leisure centre that our family has visited a few times now. It's much more than just a local swimming pool; it's a full-on water adventure destination, especially for those of us with kids. The main draw is its impressive water park section, complete with two big waterslides, but it also features a huge 50-metre lap pool, a warm water pool for hydrotherapy and lessons, a dedicated learn-to-swim pool, a large gym, and fitness studios. For families, the real star is the extensive kids' splash and play area, which is where we spend most of our time. It’s an indoor facility, making it a perfect year-round option for burning off that endless kid energy, rain or shine.

Age Appropriateness

This is one of those rare spots that genuinely caters to a wide range of ages. For the tiniest tots (0-4 years), the splash and play area is a dream. It's a zero-depth, beach-entry style pool with all sorts of gentle water features, sprays, and a small slide that my two-year-old went up and down a hundred times. For the primary school crowd (5-12 years), this area is still a huge hit, but the main attraction becomes the two massive waterslides. There are height restrictions for these, so be sure to check before you promise anything! My seven-year-old was tall enough and declared it the "best thing ever." Teenagers will love the slides and can also enjoy the main lap pool for more serious swimming. The centre is very well-zoned, so you don’t feel like the little ones are getting trampled by the bigger kids.

The Highlights (Pros)

First and foremost, the kids' water play area is one of the best I've seen. It’s expansive, engaging, and shallow enough that I didn't feel constantly on edge. The variety of sprays, buckets, and interactive elements keeps them entertained for ages. The waterslides are a major highlight for the more adventurous kids (and parents!). They are genuinely thrilling and well-supervised. Cleanliness is a huge plus here; the change rooms and the pool areas have always been spotless on our visits, which is so reassuring. The family change rooms are spacious and a lifesaver when you're juggling multiple kids and all their gear. The lifeguards are also a very visible and attentive presence throughout the entire centre, which adds a great layer of security.

The Watch-Outs (Cons)

The biggest challenge is how popular it is. During school holidays and on weekends, it can get incredibly busy. This means more noise, bigger crowds in the pools, and potential queues for the waterslides. The price can also add up for a family, especially when you factor in entry for everyone and maybe a coffee or snack from the café afterwards. Speaking of the café, the options are fairly standard and can be a bit pricey, as you’d expect. The other thing to be aware of is the waterslide rules; there are strict height and age requirements, and you have to ride solo, which can be an issue for kids who are tall enough but a bit nervous to go alone.

Practical Survival Tips for Parents

  • Parking: There is a large, free multi-level car park right next to the centre, which is a massive relief. Even during busy times, we’ve always found a spot, though you might have to go up a few levels.
  • Go Early or Late: To avoid the peak rush, try to arrive right when they open or plan for a late afternoon swim, especially on a weekend. The crowds tend to thin out after about 3:00 PM.
  • Check the Website: Before you go, check the Aquanation website for their opening hours and any special events or lane closures. The waterslide hours can sometimes be different from the main pool hours, so it pays to confirm.
  • Pack Your Own Snacks: While there is a café, packing your own water bottles and some healthy snacks can save you a bit of money and prevent meltdowns. There are areas where you can sit and eat.
  • Family Change Rooms are Your Friend: Don't try to squeeze into a regular cubicle. Head straight for the designated family change rooms; they have benches, more space, and some even have built-in toddler seats, making the post-swim chaos much more manageable.
